Which mark you need for which market

What CE, RoHS, REACH and UL mean when a customs officer or a supermarket buyer asks.

CE — Europe

Conformité Européenne. Required for the EMC and low-voltage directives on the product sold into the EU. Ask which directive and which test report sits behind the declaration.

RoHS — restricted substances

Restriction of Hazardous Substances. Limits lead, mercury, cadmium and others. Standard for EU-bound goods and requested by most retail chains and brand owners.

REACH — chemicals registration

EU chemicals regulation; relevant for the silicone jacket, adhesive and potting compound in outdoor and potted strips.

UL / ETL — North America

North American safety listing. Needed when the end client, insurer or utility requires a listed component. Available on a project basis — ask and we will confirm the scope.

What a buyer should ask for

The test report name and date, the issuing lab, and the product scope. A declaration without a report behind it will not survive a retail audit.

Product liability and warranty scope

Confirm in writing what the warranty covers (defect vs installation) and for how long, and keep the shipping record of the failing batch.
