Troubleshooting

Can I cut an LED strip anywhere, and how do I join two pieces?

Cut on the mark, join with the right connector, and never rely on the tail to carry power across a reel.

What we need to confirm it

  • Voltage, LEDs per cut, cut count, join method required (solder / connector / plug)?

Diagnosis

Cause, then fix

Cutting away from the scissor mark

The mark is placed so a cut severs only one trace between two pads. Anywhere else you break a supply path.

Fix: Cut at the mark, centred on it, with sharp blades.

Using screw terminals on a thin strip

Screw pressure crushes the 35 µm copper and the joint loosens after a few heat cycles.

Fix: Use solder, crimp, or a real strip-to-wire connector.

Expecting the plug to pass power on

A 2-pin connector carries power but no signal continuity on addressable strips; a 4-pin one is needed there.

Fix: Check the connector pin count against the strip type before you buy.
