Troubleshooting

My strip works on full power but flickers or dies when dimmed

This is a dimmer/driver matching problem. Match the dimming protocol first, then the load.

What we need to confirm it

  • Dimmer brand/model, dimming protocol, minimum dim level, driver model?

Diagnosis

Cause, then fix

Incandescent-style dimmer on LED

Leading-edge dimmers need a load high enough to sustain the arc; LED load is far lower.

Fix: Trailing-edge / PWM dimmer rated for LED, or a dedicated LED driver dimmer.

DALI / 0-10V without a driver that accepts it

The driver must be dimmable, not just the control.

Fix: Specify driver protocol together: DALI, 0-10V, 1-10V, PWM or DMX decoder.

Very low dim level below the strip's range

Below 5-10% output the LED count and bin variation show as colour shift.

Fix: Limit the scene to 10% minimum, or use a driver with a defined dimming floor.

Spec that avoids this

Strips used to build it properly
