Troubleshooting

How do I get a light line with no visible LED dots?

The dots are the individual packages. Remove them with COB chips, higher density, or a diffuser — in that order of cost.

What we need to confirm it

  • Viewing distance? Surface below reflective? Fixed or installed in channel?

Diagnosis

Cause, then fix

SMD strip viewed at close range

At 60-120 LEDs/m with 120° optics you see the package in a mirror or on glossy packaging.

Fix: COB strip (chip-on-board) is genuinely dot-free — no package to see.

Density too low for the viewing distance

60 LEDs/m is fine across a room, not across a 300 mm shelf.

Fix: Go to 320-480 LEDs/m when the line is seen within 1 m.

No diffuser over the line

Even dot-free COB looks like a bright bar without a cover in a cove.

Fix: Aluminium channel with opal diffuser — cheapest optical improvement on any project.
