Troubleshooting

The strip I bought is not bright enough — is it the LEDs?

Brightness is watts × efficiency × LEDs per metre. Usually the density, not the power, is the missing number.

What we need to confirm it

  • lm/m target, mounting distance, cove/reveal depth, required lux at the surface?

Diagnosis

Cause, then fix

Too few LEDs per metre for the distance

60 LEDs/m spreads light thin over a long line.

Fix: 320-480 LEDs/m for lines seen within 1 m; 120-160 for room-scale wash.

Low lm/W chip

Cheap chips deliver fewer lumens per watt and also live shorter.

Fix: Compare lm/m in the datasheet, not the W/m number.

Cove too deep / mounting too far from the surface

A 150 mm deep cove loses a lot of light before it reaches the wall.

Fix: Narrower cove, closer mounting, or a reflected-target calculation before you order.
