Troubleshooting

Why is my LED strip dimmer at the far end of the reel?

Copper loses voltage on the way out and back. Past a certain length the last LEDs get less voltage, dim, and shift colour.

What we need to confirm it

  • Strip W/m, feed distance to the first LED, total run length, 12V or 24V?

Diagnosis

Cause, then fix

Run longer than the voltage budget

On 24V, a 10-15 W/m strip drops visibly past about 5 m of lead from one feed; on 12V it is roughly half that distance.

Fix: Feed from the middle of long runs, or split the run into two 5 m feeds.

Thin extension cable used as a feeder

A 0.5 mm² tail across 5 m adds more resistance than the strip itself.

Fix: Use feeder cable sized for the current (check amperes, not millimetres) or run power in parallel along the run.

Too many reels in series

Chained reels multiply the drop. The datasheet gives a maximum series length; ignore it and the last reel is dim.

Fix: Parallel feed at two points instead of extending the chain.
